Nell Blaine, Summer Interior with Book 1986
L.S. Markow sent in this favorite still life. He says:
I was moved by the palpable sense of space in this painting by Nell Blaine, and wanted to know more about how she had accomplished this effect. I found out that Blaine had been a student of Hans Hoffman. It appears that she is using Hoffman's principle of "push/pull" to create a sense of space and movement within the painting. It is a wonderful evocation of still life objects in an interior, with a view of a landscape, on a warm summer day.
July is Still Life Month here in The Art Room. If you have a favorite still life you'd like to share this month, please send an image or link to the image to firstname.lastname@example.org
