Howard Hodgkin

Howard Hodgkin Large Flower fabric design on glazed chintz

Howard Hodgkin's paintings are not concerned with depictions of everyday reality, instead begin and end with emotion and memory. The British fabric company Designer's Guild had the brilliant idea of commissioning Hodgkin to design fabric, making great use of his bold sense of color and design, but without the same emotional depth of his paintings.

In honor of Lisa Daria Kennedy's beautiful flower paintings, we'll spend the month of August considering paintings, drawings and photographs of flowers. If you have an image of a painting, drawing or photograph of a flower that you admire (someone else's work) and a few thoughts you'd like to share, please email me and I'll set up a post for you.
