Ivon Hitchens

Ivon Hitchens Autumn Composition, Flowers on a Table oil on canvas

Roger Brown has introduced me to the work of the English painter Ivon Hitchens by sending in this image, saying:

Here's a nicely textured flower painting by Ivon Hitchens (same generation as Hemingway and Ben Nicholson).

This painting seems to be refreshingly different from the sort of flower paintings I've been posting, with a wild originality of technique. I found another painting of Hitchen's to post:

Ivon Hitchens The Veranda oil on canvas 41.40 x 75.10 cm

In honor of Lisa Daria Kennedy's beautiful flower paintings, we'll spend the month of August considering paintings, drawings and photographs of flowers. If you have an image of a painting, drawing or photograph of a flower that you admire (someone else's work) and a few thoughts you'd like to share, please email me and I'll set up a post for you.

  1. Do you know of any other images of Ivon from this period? Please cantact me at astidle@hotmail.com

    1. From the period Sky and Sea - Ivon Hitchens

also there's a New Ivon Hitchens exhibition on at the Jonathan Clark Fine Art Gallery at the moment. The gallery manages Ivon Hitchens' estate and so has a lot of his work and is worth a look if you're in London in the flesh. I never found Hitchens' work looked very good small and on the internet.
