Scott Smith

Scott Smith Untitled oil on paper and collage mounted on board 16"x20" 2008

The brushstrokes of this painting have the soft quality of freshly fallen snow, and the color is both sweet and moody. Since I don't like too much sweetness in a flower painting, this feels just right.

I came across this image on Facebook, and asked Scott for information about his website. Surprisingly, and amusingly, he answered that he has no website, and is "just a nobody who paints...my sentiment but sorta Emily Dickinson's words".

I'm Nobody! Who are you?
Are you – Nobody – too?
Then there's a pair of us!
Don't tell! they'd advertise – you know!

How dreary – to be – Somebody!
How public – like a Frog –
To tell one's name – the livelong June –
To an admiring Bog!
-Emily Dickinson

Thanks Scott Smith!

In honor of Lisa Daria Kennedy's beautiful flower paintings, we'll spend the month of August considering paintings, drawings and photographs of flowers. If you have an image of a painting, drawing or photograph of a flower that you admire (someone else's work) and a few thoughts you'd like to share, please email me and I'll set up a post for you.

  1. The balance between beauty and raw energy is incredible.
    Opulent, yet never trite!
