Ann Feldman has sent in the the above paintings by the Spanish Impressionist painter Joaquín Sorolla (1863-1923). She has this to say about them:

Joaquin Sorolla's paintings of children playing on the beach always make me feel as if I'm right there with them. The glistening warm skin, the waves, and the sunlight evoke feelings of freedom and youth that I don't get from any other artist. When I look at his paintings, I can practically smell the salt air and feel the grit of the sand under my feet.

I couldn't resist adding these two others:

Joaquin Sorolla Bathers oil on canvas

Joaquin Sorolla Bathing on the Beach oil on canvas 30.32" x41.34" 1908

All inspired painters are Impressionists, although it is true that some Impressionists are not inspired.

Inspired by Jon Redmond's paintings, the month of November will be dedicated to the theme of "The Nude", particularly bathers (I've decided to include swimsuits!). Please email me your suggestion (not your own work please) with a few words to decribe why you like it.

  1. Sorolla is a favorite artist of mine. Because some of his paintings are extremely large, to come close to a full appreciation, they must be seen in person. I was totally in awe as I stood in front of his work quite recently.
