  1. The comparison made me smile.
    I was raised with the coal fire as a heat source. Stanley did a fabulous job of capturing the look of it.
    I was still living in England when our area was declared a "smokeless zone" and all heat sources were changed to gas or electric. Everyone hated it and I think Vija captured the reason why, perfectly.
    The change did save lives though as the killer smog became extinct.
