Clementine Bowl 18"x18" oil on canvas April 2012
Michael Naples's paintings combine sensitive, tactile detail with elegantly balanced compositions. In Pair of Peaches (below), the quiet black of the space behind the fruit brings their tenderly observed texture and color into exquisite relief.
His beautifully rendered books don't need to be opened and read; it is quite enough of a pleasure just to look at them closed.

Here are my two favorite Michael Naples paintings from 2012:

Help! There are so many good painters who blog that it'll impossible for me to get to them all this month, but here's an idea. If you are an artist who blogs, and would like to be included this month in The Art Room, please email your choice of your ONE favorite painting from 2012, along with a link to your blog. Include the title, size, medium, month and year. All of these submissions will be included in one grand and interesting post towards the end of the month.

Another good selection for this month! His work is always a pleasure to see.
