Self Portraits: Francisco Goya

Self-portrait with Dr Arrieta 45.13 in × 30.13 in oil on canvas 1820

Roger Brown has sent in this self portrait by Francisco Goya, and has this to say about it:
Goya, back from the edge of the grave thanks to Dr. Arrieta. The Spanish text translates as "Goya, grateful to his friend Arrieta: for the skill and devotion with which he saved his life in the sharp and dangerous illness suffered at the end of the year 1819 at the age of 73." He painted it in 1820.
Thanks Roger!

That brings this month's theme of self portraiture to an end. Thanks to everyone who participated.

  1. What a lot of captivating work! I was introduced to a few new artists and I have to say I can't get the paintings of Catherine Kehoe and Jenny Saville out of my head! Fantastic!
