Favorites of 2013: Ron Donoughe

This month we're revisiting each of the artists interviewed here in The Art Room. I've asked everyone to choose a favorite painting or two from 2013, and to tell us the reason for their choice.

Ron Donoughe has chosen Twin Chimneys as one of his favorite paintings from 2013:

Twin Chimneys  16" x 18"  oil on linen  2013
Maybe it's because I'm an identical twin or because I'm a fan of Edward Hopper, but this house was begging to be painted. It had a feeling of solitude, made all the more real when I realized it was vacant. I painted it on location in about 2 1/2 hours.
Ron's second choice is titled Bedtime Stories:

Bedtime Stories 16" x 20" oil on canvas 2013
While walking through my neighborhood, I noticed this scene that made me stop and think. I used a very poor image from my iPhone to make this painting as soon as I got into my studio. It has a mystery to it and I  was imagining what might be going on inside the house, bedtime stories perhaps.
You can find out more about Ron from his website and his Facebook page, and by reading his interview. Learn about his current project of painting 90 Pittsburgh neighborhoods at his Tumblr Blog.
